Catherine's Yearly Festive Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will enjoy a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Music and Opportunity

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by television on December 24th.
